Osmosis in Winter
Pretend you are standing on your tiny porch
looking out into the yard.
There is no screen, not even glass, and it isn’t windy.
It is snowing; there is a pool of it already collected evenly in the lawn.
It is a fine, dry snow –
it will be pleasant to walk through.
The snow is not threatening,
just soft, and you are standing there in the open door frame
watching it all.
You are not wearing a coat or proper shoes,
not even a hat.
But you have a cup of tea
between your palms,
and that warmth
is in your body.
